Longitudinal Wave: compressional waves that produce compression and rarefaction when traveling through a medium. Displacement of the medium is the same or opposite direction to the travel of the wave.
They are used in everyday life in sound waves, radio waves, and slinky toys. They are created through transfers of energy in the same direction as the disturbance in the medium.
